On Tuesday, 9 February 2021, Cybersafe Foundation joined the rest of the world to celebrate the 18th edition of Safer Internet Day, themed “Together for a better internet”. The day called upon all stakeholders to come together to make the internet a safer and better place for all, especially children and young people. To commemorate Safer Internet Day 2021, Cybersafe Foundation hosted three sessions to drive awareness on salient cybersecurity issues and risks children face given their increased exposure to technology and remediation/protective measures. The event was hosted in partnership with Like A Palm Tree Foundation, Lagos Mums, Techeconomy, Wives and Mothers Network, and Facebook.
The first interactive virtual session was for children aged 5 to 12 years old and titled “Cyber Young Cyber Safe.” It featured a Q&A, an online safety game, and a story from Grandma Wura. Below is a recording of the session.

The second interactive virtual session was for 13 to 17-year-old teens. It featured a presentation centered on social engineering schemes, basic online safety best practices, and cyberbullying. Below is a recording of the session.
The last interactive virtual session was for parents and guardians. It featured a presentation from Adaora Ikenze, a Facebook Representative on Key Privacy and Safety Features on Facebook. Here are the links to the resources she shared:

Then Chukwuemeka Monyei of Like a Palm Tree Foundation gave a talk focused on parental guidance, children emulating parents, and basic online safety best practices. We also had Chioma Ibe from the Nigerian Communications Commission who gave a short talk. Below is a recording of the session.
